This Green Pasture, Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver oil, and is supplied in 120 Non Gelatin Capsules containing 550mg per capsule.

The Cod fish is also known as (Gadus macrocephalus) and Pacific Cod. and is  used in this product and caught in the Bering Sea and also around the Aleutian Islands near Alaska in Northern America.  They are wild caught by Alaskan Leader Seafoods and are processed on board in a HAACP facility by trained Quality Control staff.  This company based out of Seattle, Washington USA and operate a sustainable business and comply with standards set by msc.org  or the Marine Stewardship Council who exist to ensure seafood is caught in a sustainable way. They also comply with standards set by Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program that helps consumers and businesses make choices for a healthy ocean.

The business is a family run business by Dave and Barbara Wetzel who have prepared the extracted the Cod Liver Oil with great care and concern and with no additives. The fermentation process of this raw and unadulterated food, is a natural enzymatic and microbial action that releases the oil from the livers.

The produced fermented cod liver oil comes from the prolonged soaking of wild cod livers in brine, which allows cod livers to naturally ferment; the oil accumulates on top and is carefully collected.  Most commercial cod liver oil manufacturing is highly industrialised and Green Pasture chooses traditional methods of production. 

Fermentation is an ancient practice still used worldwide to safely preserve a variety of foods, including meat and fish. Producing cod liver oil through fermentation and gentle extraction may go as far back as biblical times.  and has been used to prepare and preserve food/medicine since the first written word. Using fish livers for medicine has deep historical significance in human medicinal history

The inspiration for making this product was acquired from listening to Sally Fallon Morell talk at a lecture in about 2002 about a dentist named Dr Weston A Price who published his discoveries in his book  Nutrition and Physical Degeneration after travelling the world to visit uncivilised cultures in the 1920 and 30s.

This Blue Ice Product contains Cod Liver Oil that has been fermented and is supplied in a cellulose capsule that only contains unbleached beeswax used as a thickener.
